Privacy policy

Who we are

The Inspiration Trust is the data controller for personal data collected through this site. You can reach us using the contact form.

The Design & Technology Directory is the online home of the printed directory handed out at The Big D&T Meet, organised by The Inspiration Trust. The site is built and maintained by everydaycreatives.uk.

What data we collect

You do not need an account to browse. Browsing and searching the directory does not ask for or store personal data about you, and we do not run advertising. The only personal data published on the site is the contact information that listed organisations choose to share.

If you list an organisation, we store the email address you sign in with and the listing details and images you submit, so we can review, publish and manage your listing. We do not use them for marketing.

If you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address, subject and message so we can reply. The message is emailed to the team. It is not stored in the directory's database, and we do not add you to any mailing list.

To stop abuse, the sign-in, contact and upload forms count how often each internet address and email address uses them. The count is kept against a scrambled form of the address, not the address itself.

Our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs, such as the internet address and the pages requested, under its own retention rules.

How long we keep it

  • A sign-in link works once and is valid for 24 hours. A signed-in session ends after 30 days without use, or when you choose Sign out.
  • The abuse counters are kept for about a day, then cleared automatically.
  • Your listing and the email address on your account are kept while the listing is in the directory. We delete them when you ask us to remove the listing or your account.
  • Images uploaded with a submission that we send back for changes are deleted at that point, unless the same image is on your live listing.
  • Contact messages are kept in the team's mailbox only as long as needed to reply to you and deal with your enquiry.
  • Your cookie choice and any unfinished listing stay in your own browser until you clear them.

Why we can use it

We process listing details on the basis of legitimate interests: running a directory that organisations have asked to appear in, and that teachers rely on being accurate. Sign-in emails and contact-form replies are processed to provide the service you asked for. Analytics runs only on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time from the Cookie choices link in the footer.

Who else sees it

The site runs on Vercel (hosting and image storage), Neon (database) and Resend (email delivery), each processing data only to provide those services to us. If you accept analytics, Google also receives the usage data described below. We do not sell personal data or share it with anyone else.

Cookies and local storage

This site sets only the cookies that keep an organisation signed in. With your permission it also uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and links are used.

Your cookie choice is remembered in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie, and so is any listing you have started but not submitted. Neither is sent to us. You can clear them from your browser settings, and change your cookie choice at any time with the Cookie choices link in the footer.

If you choose Accept on the cookie banner, Google Analytics records which pages are visited and what is searched for, and when someone starts or submits the contact or listing form, or taps a phone number or email link. It is set up without advertising features. If you choose Decline, or do nothing, it never loads. If you withdraw consent later, its cookies are removed from your browser.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct or erase the personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw consent at any time. These rights mostly concern organisations that sign in or list, and anyone who has written to us. To use any of them, or to update or remove a listing, contact us using the details below.

Contact

For any privacy question, or to update or remove a listing, contact The Inspiration Trust using the contact form. If you are not happy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
